In Gaibandha's Sadullapur Upazila, after killing his wife Kakuli Rani (25) for gambling, the body was left at the hospital and the killer's husband Kallol Chandra Mahanta escaped from there on Saturday.

The incident took place at the emergency department of Gaibandha District Hospital on Saturday morning.

Gaibandha District Hospital One Stop Crisis Center official. Obaidullah said a man identified as her husband brought a woman to the hospital in the morning. The doctor on duty at the emergency department declared him dead. The doctor said the woman died before she was brought to the hospital. He added that the woman's husband managed to escape after hearing the news. Later the police was informed from the hospital.

The deceased were identified as Kakuli Rani Mahanta, wife of Kallob Chandra Mohant of Purba Keshalidanga village under Sadullapur upazila and Chittaranjan Mahanta of adjoining Rasulpur village.

The accused Kallob Chandra Mahanta is the son of Shukul Chandra Mahanta of East Keshalidanga village.

Manoranjan Mahanta, elder brother of the deceased Kakuli, said that Kallob was married to Kakuli two and a half years ago. After the marriage, it is known that Kallob is addicted to gambling and drugs. He further said that after the marriage, Kallob and his family members used to torture Kakuli physically and mentally for various reasons including dowry.

Kallob also pressured his wife Kakuli to bring money from his father-in-law's house for drug use and gambling. On Friday night, Kallob asked his wife Kakuli Rani for money to gamble. Kakuli refuses to pay. Kallob became enraged and beat him up. At one point he died. Kallob left the body at Gaibandha General Hospital and managed to escape.

Sadullapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Pradeep Kumar Roy confirmed the incident and said that the victim's father Chittaranjan had filed a case with the Mahanta Police Station.
