The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has officially dropped corruption allegations involving Tk 134.65 crore against Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Additional Chief Engineer (Dredging) Saidur Rahman.
According to an official letter signed by Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Deputy Director of ACC (Inquiry and Investigation) Mymensingh-2, the allegations claimed that irregularities and corruption amounting to Tk 134.65 crore took place under a project implemented in the Mymensingh region between 2019 and 2021 without proper execution of work. Following an inquiry, the ACC found no merit in the claims and finalized the dismissal of the case on September 10 of last year.
Additionally, a separate inquiry into allegations of acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income by Engineer Saidur Rahman and his wife, Shamima Akhter, was also concluded and dropped through a letter signed by the ACC Director (Special Investigation and Inquiry) on December 30.
Colleagues and officials within BIWTA noted that Engineer Saidur Rahman has built a strong reputation as a reliable and professional officer through his dedication and responsible service. In safeguarding organizational interests, he has frequently taken strict stances against irregularities and unethical practices. Insiders allege that an interested faction, angered by his professional integrity, attempted to tarnish his reputation by spreading false and misleading information through fringe online news portals.
Reacting to the developments, Engineer Saidur Rahman stated that he has always prioritized institutional interests and discharged his duties without bowing to irregular or unethical pressures. Welcoming investigative journalism aimed at uncovering the truth, he urged media outlets to verify official records, government decisions, project documents, and statements from relevant individuals rather than relying on unverified information supplied by vested quarters.
"When false, fabricated, and motivated reports are published, it not only damages an official's reputation but also harms their family, society, and the institution," Saidur Rahman said.
Expressing his firm resolve to remain steadfast on the path of truth and justice, he added, "Time is the ultimate arbiter, and the truth never stays hidden. I always welcome the uncovering of the actual facts."
