Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan is a long-time well-known and influential leader in the politics of the hill district of Khagrachhari.
In the upcoming national parliamentary election, he has been nominated by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for the Khagrachhari-298 Constituency.

Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan was born on 5 January 1965 in Ramgarh Upazila of Khagrachhari Hill District. His father’s name is Saleh Ahmed Bhuiyan and his mother’s name is Bia Saleh. Born into a religious and socially respected family, Wadud Bhuiyan learned discipline, morality, and a sense of responsibility toward society from an early age.
He completed his primary and secondary education at local educational institutions. Later, he enrolled in the Department of Sociology at Chattogram University and obtained BSS and MSS degrees. From his student life, he became aware of social and political issues.
Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan became involved in nationalist politics during his student days. In the late 1980s, he began his political journey through Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. Later, by holding important responsibilities from the grassroots to district and national levels of the BNP, he became a tested and proven leader of the party.
In the 2001 national parliamentary election, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Khagrachhari-298 constituency. During his tenure as an MP, according to party sources, he took various initiatives for infrastructure development in the hill region, expansion of educational institutions, improvement of communication systems, and development of the social sector. He also served as Chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board. During that time, his role in implementing development plans in the hilly areas was locally appreciated.
Throughout his long political career, as part of BNP’s movements and struggles, he has faced multiple political cases and has been imprisoned at different times. However, his followers believe that such repression did not divert him from politics; rather, it made him more firm and uncompromising in the field of movement.
Currently, Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan is the President of Khagrachhari District BNP and Joint Secretary (Employment Affairs) of the BNP Central Executive Committee. Through these responsibilities, he continues to play an active role in organizational activities and political guidance of the party.
In his personal life, local leaders and activists describe him as simple, friendly, and disciplined in organizational matters. A believer in harmony between the hill people and the Bengali community, he strives to maintain personal relationships beyond political differences. By standing beside local people in their joys and sorrows, participating in social and religious events, and keeping in touch with party leaders and activists, he has established himself as a familiar and acceptable figure in the area.
Political analysts believe that in the upcoming national parliamentary election, Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan’s long political experience, history of movements and struggles, and organizational skills may have a significant impact on the politics of the Khagrachhari-298 constituency.
