Staff Correspondent

Eight distinguished individuals will receive the Independence Award 2025 in recognition of their outstanding contributions at the national level.

A high-level government source confirmed the matter to the media on Thursday (March 6).

The official announcement of the awardees' names will be made soon.

The recipients include Liberation War Chief Commander M A G Osmani, scientist Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam, BRAC founder Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, writer and intellectual Badruddin Umar, poet Al Mahmud, Central Shaheed Minar co-designer Novera Ahmed, pop legend Azam Khan, and Abrar Fahad.

It was revealed a few days ago that Abrar Fahad would receive the award. Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan had shared the information earlier.

Abrar Fahad was a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). In October 2019, he was killed after being tortured by activists of the now-banned student organization Chhatra League.
