At least seven people were injured in a reported attack during a campaign program of BNP nomination aspirant Sadiqur Rahman Shuvo Siddiqui in the Jamalpur-3 (Melandah–Madarganj) constituency on Wednesday night.
According to local sources, the incident took place at 9:30 p.m. in the Charpolisha Talatola area. The injured were said to be supporters of Shuvo Siddiqui, who currently serves as Joint General Secretary of the Melandah BNP.
Among the injured, three were admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital, while others received first aid.
Shuvo Siddiqui alleged that the attack occurred when his team was returning from a day-long campaign and courtyard meeting. He claimed that a group of opponents blocked their vehicle and attacked them. Siddiqui said he immediately informed local administration officials, including the DC, SP, and police station.
Meanwhile, Melandah BNP General Secretary Manjurul Kabir acknowledged that an incident had taken place but said the reason behind it was not yet clear.
Melandah Police visited the spot that night, according to Investigation Officer Snehashish Roy, who said the situation was brought under control and Siddiqui was moved to a safe location. No written complaint had been filed as of the time of reporting.
The Jamalpur-3 constituency has seen several BNP leaders expressing interest in nomination ahead of the upcoming national election. Among them are Engineer Daulatuzzaman Ansari, Rejabuddowla Chowdhury, Naeem Jahangir, Colonel (Retd.) Hannan, and Fayezul Islam Lanzu.
Shuvo Siddiqui comes from a well-known political family; his grandfather Abdur Rahman Siddiqui was a journalist and politician who once contested for Parliament and played a role in various political movements in pre- and post-independence Bangladesh.
