At least 600 trolleys and 20 tractors of Sugar Mills in Rajshshi have been damaged as these transportd have been lying under open sky for long time.

After only 15-20 days of use every year, these vehicles are left under the open sky. These vehicles have to be repaired during use. A huge amount of money is being spent to run it.

According to Rajshahi Sugar Mill office, Rajshahi sugar mill has 600 trolleys and 20 tractors for transporting sugarcane. In the 2022-2023 threshing season, Rajshahi Sugar Mill was scheduled to operate for 35 days, but sugarcane threshing operations ended in 21 days. In the current season, only 1 thousand 356 metric tons of sugar has been produced from 26 thousand 45 metric tons of sugarcane. The production cost of which is 83 crore 1 lakh 29 thousand taka. As a result, only 21 days have been used for these transports. After use these transports are again kept under open sky.

The investigation showed that almost half of the sugarcane transport was broken down due to lack of maintenance of trolleys and tractors. If the trolleys are lying for a long time, there is a danger that the vehicles purchased with government funds will become unusable. An official of the sugar mill said that every year an average of about 10 lakh rupees is being spent to operate these vehicles.

There is no storage space compared to the number of vehicles available to transport sugarcane. Gragage is needed to keep these vehicles safe. But to make this gray will cost at least one and a half million taka and that cost cannot be taken by this sugar mill. That is why the transports are kept under the sky, said Abul Bashar, Managing Director of Rajshahi Sugar Mill.
