The court of Cumilla sentenced 06 people to death and 7 people to life imprisonment for killing two cousins named Md. Ghiyas Uddin and Md. Jamal Hossain with a sharp blade, chisel and hockey stick due to a dispute over land in the south of Cumilla Sadar.

On Monday at 12:30 noon, Judge Jahangir Hossain of the learned Additional District and Sessions Judge IV Court of Cumilla gave the verdict. The accused who were sentenced to death are Tofail Ahmed Tota (38), son of Md Haji Atar Ali of Dhanaitri village under Cumilla Sadar South Upazila, Kamal Hossain (48), son of deceased Mumtaz Uddin, Alamgir Hossain (38), son of Haji Abdur Rahim, Md Mamun (28), son of Md Farid Uddin. ), Md Babul (35) son of deceased Anwar Ali and Harunur Rashid (45) of deceased Anwar Ali.

The accused who have been sentenced to life imprisonment are Haider Ali (65), son of deceased Junab Ali of Dhanaitari under Comilla Sadar South Upazila, Ah Mannan (32), son of Haji Abdur Rahim, Jamal Hossain (45), son of deceased Mamtaz Uddin, Abul Bashar (28), son of deceased Ah Khalek, Zakir Hossain, son of deceased Ah Rashid, Ah Kader (32), son of deceased Ah Khalek, and Abdul Quddus (45), son of deceased Yusuf Miah of the same village, were sentenced to life imprisonment. The acquitted accused are - Md Aman (40), son of deceased Mumtaz Uddin of the same village and Junab Ali Md Salim Mia (50) of Chowara village of the same upazila. This information was confirmed by the learned District PP Advocate Md. Zahirul Islam Salim.

According to the details of the case, on 12th August 2016, due to previous enmity, at around 8.30 pm, the accused Md. Tofail Ahmed entered the shop called "Bhai Bhai Store" owned by Dhanaitri Jamtala Khorshed Alam and armed with domestic weapons in the hands of the accused, on the orders of Haider Ali. Tota Mia stabbed the plaintiff's father Md Ghiyasuddin and eldest son Jamal Hossain randomly with sharp weapons and escaped with bloody injuries. Seeing that their condition was dangerous, the relatives of the deceased took them to Kumek Hospital, the doctor on duty first declared Md Ghiyasuddin dead and later declared Jamal Hossain dead.

Mehedi Hasan (25), the son of Md Ghiyas Uddin, who was killed in this incident, filed a murder case at the Sadar South Model Police Station, mentioning the names of 12 people including the accused Md Tofail Ahmed Tota and 10/12 others as accused. As the charges brought against the defendants were initially proven by uncovering the main mystery, the defendant filed a charge sheet against 12 people named Ezhar including Ezhar and 3 people from Ezhar Barhibut Ah Quddus.

When the case came to trial, after taking the testimony of 11 witnesses for the state and two innocent witnesses for the accused, at the end of the argumentative hearing, after reviewing the confessional statements of the accused Md. Harunur Rashid and Ah Quddus, 6 people including the accused Md. Tofail Ahmed Tota were sentenced to death and 7 people were sentenced to life imprisonment, including the accused Haider Ali; Along with that, each accused was fined Rs 50,000 and sentenced to life imprisonment, each of whom was sentenced to one more year of rigorous imprisonment.

Also, the court acquitted the accused Aman and Md. Salim as the charges brought against them were not proved. Expressing satisfaction with this verdict, learned strategist district PP advocate Md. Zahirul Islam Salim and additional PP advocate Md. Mojibur Rahman Bahar and private lawyer advocate Md. Rafiqul Islam for the plaintiff said that we hope the high court will uphold the verdict and implement it quickly.
