
44 people, including 8 Bangladeshis detained at Kurigram border

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 44 people, including 8 Bangladeshis, who were illegally pushed into Bangladesh at the Roumari and Bhurungamari borders in Kurigram. The BGB is verifying whether the remaining 36 detained are Rohingyas.
Among those arrested, 30 were at the Roumari border and 14 were at the Bhurungamari border.
In the early hours of Wednesday, locals detained them and handed them over to the BGB while they were roaming inside Bangladesh through various border areas of Roumari Upazila and the Bhawarkuri border of Bhurungamari Upazila.
On Wednesday morning, locals said they would arrest the detainees if their conversations became suspicious while they were roaming around various markets in the border area.
Roumari Police Station OC Lutfar Rahman said that 30 people were pushed into Bangladesh from India through various borders in Roumari in the early hours of the morning. It is believed that 22 of them are Rohingya. The BGB is investigating the identities of the detainees.
Kurigram 22 BGB Battery Commander Lt. Col. Mohammad Mahbub-ul-Haq said that 14 people, including 8 women and children, have been detained in the Bhawalkuri border area of Bhurungamari. All of them are Rohingya.
Jamalpur BGB sources said that 8 of those detained in Roumari are Bangladeshis, and the identities of the rest are being verified.
