Amid ongoing conflict in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, 34 nationals — including members of the country’s Border Guard Police (BGP), soldiers, and civilians — who fled and took refuge in Bangladesh, are being repatriated on Wednesday.

According to the Cox’s Bazar district administration, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and airport authorities, the repatriation will take place via a special aircraft from Myanmar, departing from Cox’s Bazar Airport on that day.Brigadier General M M Imrul Hassan, commander of BGB’s Cox’s Bazar region, confirmed at around 8:30 p.m. on Monday that due to the conflict in Rakhine State, 34 individuals — including BGP personnel, soldiers, and civilians — had crossed the border at various points and taken refuge in Bangladesh. They are currently in the custody of BGB. He added that a special Myanmar aircraft would arrive at Cox’s Bazar Airport on Wednesday to take them back, and the handover process would be conducted there.Md. Golam Murtuza Hossain, director of Cox’s Bazar Airport, said that a special aircraft from Myanmar is scheduled to land at the airport on Wednesday to take the 34 nationals back. Since Cox’s Bazar does not have regular international passenger flight operations, Bangladesh’s aviation authorities have made special arrangements for this purpose. In line with these arrangements, officials and staff from the concerned agencies will be brought to Cox’s Bazar to facilitate the immigration procedures and handover process.Additional District Magistrate of Cox’s Bazar, Imran Hossain Sajib, said that BGB has already provided a list of the 34 Myanmar nationals to be repatriated. The relevant department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed the local administration to carry out the necessary administrative tasks for the repatriation, and preparations are underway accordingly.Previously, the Myanmar junta government had taken back 752 of its nationals in three phases, who had similarly fled to Bangladesh. Additionally, 214 Bangladeshis, who had served prison sentences in Myanmar, were also repatriated.
