2nd phase upazila parishad polls on 21 May

The second phase of the sixth upazila parishad elections will be held in 161 upazilas on 21 May.
The Election Commission (EC) announced the schedule after a meeting presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka on Monday.
At a press conference after the meeting, EC Secretary Md Jahangir Alam said the deadline for the submission of nomination papers is 21 April while scrutinisation of the nomination forms will be held on 23 April. The last date for the withdrawal of candidature is 30 April.
The elections will be conducted using electronic voting machines (EVMs) in nine upazilas, while ballot papers will be used for voting in the rest of the upazilas, he said.
Candidates have to submit their nomination papers and their security deposits through the online system, he added.
On 21 March, the commission announced the schedule of the first phase elections which will be held in 152 upazilas on 8 May.
