Dr. Muhammad Mahtab Hossain Mazed
Today is Saturday, May 28, World Safe Motherhood Day 2022. The taste of motherhood brings fulfillment in a woman's life. Safe motherhood was proclaimed at the Nairobi Conference in Kenya in 1987 to raise awareness of the importance of safe motherhood. Its main objective was to reduce maternal mortality by 50% by the year 2000.
In 1997 , Bangladesh gave its approval in this regard. In 2015, the World Health Organization included this initiative in sustainable development. Like every year, Safe Motherhood Day is being celebrated on 28 th May all over the world.
A pregnant mother has the right to receive health care from conception until the child is born. Not only the mother, but also the child growing in the mother's womb needs care, which is called gestational care. The goal of this pregnancy care is to ensure the health of the mother and baby and to prevent or treat any complications of pregnancy. In a word, giving a healthy baby to the family, society and country without any deterioration of mother's health. And so the purpose of celebrating Safe Motherhood Day is to ensure safe maternal health, reduction of maternal mortality rate and health of newborns.
According to the Department of Health, according to various statistics, 574 people per lakh in 1986-90, 485 people in 1991-95, 448 people in 1198, 322 people in 1998-2000, 298 people in 2007, 194 people in 2010 and 16 people in 2015. John, 179 pregnant mothers died in 2018 and 165 in 2019.
According to a study by the National Institute for Population Research and Training (NIPORT), the maternal mortality rate has dropped by about 94 per 100,000 live births in the last 10 years. Although there has been some improvement in the last 10 years, the government is working to bring the maternal mortality rate below 70 per lakh live births. To this end, health services have reached all over the country through about 14,000 community clinics. Field level health workers are working to discourage mothers from home delivery.
Delivery of mothers to various and unhealthy clinics is being stopped. According to the Niport study, the leading causes of maternal mortality in the country are 31 per cent due to hemorrhage, 24 per cent to eclampsia, 20 per cent to indirect causes, 6 per cent to unspecified causes, 8 per cent to abortion complications, 8 per cent to other causes and 3 per cent to inhuman labor. The concerned government departments are working day and night to change the situation.
The family planning index has also changed. In 2019, the population growth rate in the country came down to 1.32 percent. In 2015 it was 1.37 percent. Apart from this, the rate of drop and incomplete need has also come down considerably. Which was 37 percent and 12 percent respectively. Satisfaction rate of family planning method among fertile (15-49 years) women is 7.4 percent. Which was earlier 72.6 percent (SVRS-2014).
Not only the economic index, Bangladesh has also made significant progress in the human resource index in the last fifty years. In this case, the score of Bangladesh in the UN index is 73.2 percent. Improving child and maternal health has played an important role behind this indicator. According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the number of child deaths per thousand in Bangladesh in 1974 was 153. Which came down to only 22 people per thousand in 2018. In addition, BBS gave the number of deaths of children under the age of five as 212 per thousand in 1971. Which was 29 per thousand in 2018. In 1991, the maternal mortality rate was 4.78 percent. It has now come down to 1.69 percent.
In 1987, a meeting of development partners in Nairobi, Kenya, adopted a plan for safe motherhood in the international arena. At a meeting in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, in 1996, various international organizations reviewed the issue and emphasized the need to move this activity forward. Its main objective is to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by establishing safe motherhood as a woman's right.
Dr. MM Mazed, the founder and eminent researcher of jatio rogi kallan Society writes in his column about today's topic ...Pregnancy, although one of the happiest stages of a woman's life, can apply a bunch of emotional, physiological stress. It is therefore important for pregnant women to take care of themselves at this stage of their lives.
In terms of care, diet and nutrition, it is especially important to know what foods to eat during pregnancy. Pregnant women need to eat for both themselves and their babies to meet their nutritional needs. Studies have shown that pregnant women need three to five hundred extra calories per day. These extra calories require one thousand two hundred milligrams of calcium, six hundred to eight hundred micrograms of folate and twenty-seven milligrams of iron.
Meeting all of the above nutritional requirements through a diet can seem daunting; The good news is that getting extra nutrition is not as difficult as it may seem. Our nutritional intake largely depends on the food we choose.
> Food: - Pregnant mother needs a balanced diet, it is possible to ensure the necessary nutrition and eliminate food deficiencies. At this time you need to drink plenty of pure water. It is better not to eat extra oily food.

Pregnant mothers must wear clean, comfortable, easy-to-wear and loose clothing. Wear the right size and soft shoes. Heels should be avoided in this case.
> Travel: -It is better not to go on long journey for first three months and last three months of pregnancy. Traveling on high and low roads or in vehicles that are prone to tremors is harmful to health. Traveling in a healthy and pleasant environment for some time in the morning and afternoon is good for pregnant mothers, it keeps the body healthy and the mind cheerful. So flower gardens, lake shores, parks - all these places should be visited.
> Taking special care of the body and taking preventive measures against diseases: -

At this time the body's resistance to disease is less than normal. Therefore, patients infected with influenza, measles, chicken pox and now the new virus monkeypox should be kept away.
> Special Warning: -
Excessive emotions, stress, anxiety, fear, disease, grief, etc. are harmful to the health of the pregnant mother, so it is important to avoid these. The husband should abstain from sexual intercourse for the first three months and the last three months. Medication should not be taken without the advice of a doctor. To prevent dehydration, you need to drink more water than usual. The advice of a specialist doctor must be taken to avoid all kinds of risks.
> Homoeo Solution: -Homeo Medical Scientists are not in favor of compulsorily taking any medicine (Vitamin, Iron, Calcium) during pregnancy. Especially those who have good digestion and can afford to buy fish-meat-vegetables-fruits-roots etc., they do not need to take any (vitamin) medicine.
