20 students of DU get 'Alhaj Maqbul Hossain Trust Fund' scholarships

Twenty meritorious and disadvantaged students from different departments of Dhaka University have received the 'Alhaj Maqbul Hossain Trust Fund' scholarship. University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman was present as the chief guest in an event organized at the Senate Building on Wednesday at Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury and handed over the scholarship cheques to the students.

Professor Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed, Treasurer of the university presided over the program and the donor of 'Alhaj Maqbul Hossain Trust Fund', Ahsanul Islam Titu, MP spoke as a special guest. Students, parents and donor family members were present. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman paid deep respect to the memory of late Alhaj Maqbul Hossain and said that he has worked to build an inclusive society. He has also played an extraordinary role in the development of education, health, industry and agriculture sectors of the country.

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the scholarship recipients and said that the students will be more motivated in their studies through this scholarship. The Vice-Chancellor called upon the students to develop themselves as good citizens and play a role in building a smart Bangladesh by bearing the values of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the spirit of the Great Liberation War.

The scholarship recipients are Madhu Kumar Roy of Sanskrit Department, Nurezannat Afris of Music Department, Jannatul Naeem of Applied Mathematics Department, Labani Akhter of Statistics Department, Tajreen Jahan Munia and Tania Mustari of Law Department, Md. of Management Department. Rajan Khan, Marketing Department. Kashem, Department of Criminology Anamika Bala, Department of Japanese Studies

Farida Yasmin Bonya, Tama Adhikari of Psychology Department, Labani Akhtar of Fisheries Department, Al-Amin and Mosha Yanur Khatun of Pharmacy Department, Habiba Azad of Disaster Sciences and Climate Resilience Department, Wahid Murad of Meteorological Science Department, Md. of Computer Science and Engineering Department. Muhaiminul Islam Ninad, Ahsan Imran of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Department, Samson Bam of Pottery Department and Jhalak Saha of Drawing and Illustration Department.

It may be noted that former student of Dhaka University, founder president of DU Social Welfare Alumni Association and former Member of Parliament Alhaj¦ Maqbul Hossain passed away in 2020. Scholarships were awarded to students for the first time this year from the trust fund established by his family at Dhaka University.
