On the first day of the four-day autumn Durga Puja holiday, the Narayanganj section of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway experienced severe traffic jams.
This traffic jam has been created along the 14 km road from Sanarpar in Siddhirganj to Chaiti Garments area in Sonargaon on the Chittagong-bound lane of the highway. Although there is no heavy traffic in the rest, the vehicles are moving slowly.
However, traffic is normal in the Dhaka-bound lane of the highway. Traffic was seen stuck between 4am and 2pm on Thursday . This scene was seen at different points of the highway.
Meanwhile, traffic and passenger pressure has increased in the Narayanganj section of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway due to the four-day holiday. Besides, passengers were seen waiting for long time for vehicles at the ticket counters.
Ziaul Islam boarded the bus from the signboard area to Comilla. He said, "I reached Chittagong Road in one hour. I have no idea how long it will take to go the rest of the way.
Another passenger named Samsuddin said, "I am going home with my family after getting four consecutive days off. But now everyone is getting sick due to traffic jam and excessive heat.
In this regard, Kanchpur Highway Police Station OC Kazi Wahid Morshed said, "On the one hand, the traffic pressure on the highway due to extended holidays, on the other hand, the vehicles are not able to move from one place to another on time due to the potholes in the Langalband area of the highway." This has resulted in this traffic jam.
This traffic jam has become more severe as some vehicles entered the opposite way. He further said, "We are working to resolve the traffic jam. We hope that the traffic will be normal very soon.
