14 killed in bus-pickup van collision in Faridpur

At least 14 people, including five of a family, were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a pickup van in Faridpur Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning.
The accident took place in the Diknagar area of Kanaipur on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway around 8:15am.
Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. All the deceased were initially reported to be the passengers of the pickup van.
Md Hasanuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, said a Magura-bound bus of Unique Paribahan from Dhaka collided with the pickup van coming from the opposite direction. Eleven people died on the spot and others died after being taken to hospital.
Three of the injured have been admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital (BSMMCH) in the district.
Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Md Quamrul Ahsan Talukder said a five-member probe body has been formed to investigate the accident.
He also announced to provide Tk5 lakh to the family of each deceased and Tk3 lakh to each injured for their treatment.
