130 hilsa fishes caugjht in net of Surya Majhi in Bay

Kalapara (Patuakhali) Correspondent

Some 130 hilsa fishes were caught in a fishing net in the Bay of Bengal near Kuakata.

The fisherman named Surya Majhi brought these fish to Alipur fish landing center for sale on Saturday morning.

Earlier, these fishes were caught in his net in the sea 60 km from Kuakata last Thursday night.

It is known that on Wednesday Surya Majhi sailed from Alipur to Bay of Bengal with a trawler named Allah Daya-1 of Banshkhali along with 17 fishermen. After pulling the net, they caught a large amount of hilsa, they could not take the whole fish to the trawler and left half of the net in the sea. Fishermen said that the market value of these hilsa is about 40 lakhs.

Surya Majhi said, after we went to the sea and fed the first fish, the nets came up. Never before have we caught so many fish in our nets. Later, because our trawler was loaded, we cut half the net with fish in the sea and left. We fishermen are very grateful. The fish are currently being harvested and sold by auction.

Kalapara Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Apu Saha said that hilsa has been caught in fishermen's nets for quite some time. We hope that when the rains start, the nets of the fishermen will be flooded with various species of fish including hilsa.
