12-year-old girl raped, old man arrested in Faridpur

A 12-year-old girl was accused of raping for money in Saltha of Faridpar. Mannan Sheikh (55) has been arrested by the police.
He was arrested from Ramkantupur area of Upazila Sadar on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier in the afternoon, the victim's mother filed a case under the Prevention of Women and Child Torture Act at Saltha police station.
The arrested Mannan Sheikh is the son of deceased Azhar Sheikh of Tugoldia village of Bhawal union of upazila.
According to the source of the case, last Thursday (May 4) at noon, the girl was sitting in the yard of the house and made a garland of Hijul flowers.
At that time the neighbor Mannan Sheikh came from behind and grabbed her face and took her inside his house. There, he showed her a 500 rupee note and forcibly raped her.
When the matter became known in the area, the two families tried to settle the rape incident locally by exchanging only 40 thousand rupees. Later, the girl's mother filed a case at the police station on Saturday as the incident was not resolved.
OC of Saltha police station confirmed the matter. Sheikh Sadiq said that the rapist Mannan Sheikh was arrested within two hours after filing the case in the rape of the girl. The tortured girl was rescued.
