12 injured in tank explosion at Sitakunda Shipyard

Some 12 workers were injured in a fire after an explosion at a shipyard in Sonaichari Union of Chittagong's Sitakunda Upazila.
The incident took place on Saturday afternoon at the ship breaking factory named SN Corporation owned by Shaukat Ali Chowdhury located on the sea coast of Shitalpur Tentultala area of Sonaichari Union.
The injured are Jahangir (48), Ahmadullah (38), Kasem (39), Sagar (20), Alamin (23), Karimul (21), Habib (36), Barkat (23), Anwar (50), Rafiqul (30), Rafiq (30), Saiful (30).
According to medical sources, when they were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, the doctors on duty admitted them all to Burn and Plastic Surgery Ward No-36.
According to factory workers and local sources, the workers were cutting scrap ships in the shipwreck factory in the afternoon. During the cutting work inside the ship's pump room, suddenly there was a terrible explosion in a tank there.
In addition to the explosion, the surrounding of the factory shook. At that time, 12 workers were burnt inside the pump room.
In-charge of the factory Shaukat Azad said that the work of cutting the scrap ship was at the very last stage. In the afternoon, the workers were working on the cutting of the pump room at the end of the ship. At this time suddenly the tank inside the pump exploded.
