10-km traffic jam in Bangabandhu Bridge area

Two trucks overturned on the Bangabandhu Bridge in Tangail at late night, resulting in suspension of toll collection amid heavy fog on the highway.
In this, there is traffic congestion and slow movement of traffic on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway in an area of about 10 kilometers.
From Wednesday early morning, there is traffic jam and slow movement of traffic in an area of about 10 km from Bangabandhu Bridge east to Elenga on the highway.
Bangabandhu Setu East Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Liton Miah said that traffic on the highway is moving slowly due to the suspension of toll collection in two stages after two trucks crashed on the Bangabandhu Bridge at night. Efforts are being made to reduce traffic congestion on highways.
Bangabandhu Bridge Site Office Executive Engineer Ahsanul Kabir Pavel said that two trucks broke down on the bridge at night. It stopped toll collection on the bridge for some time.
Later two trucks were removed from the bridge. Apart from this, miking is being done on the east and west side of the bridge along with the distribution of warning leaflets for public awareness in the toll plaza area to prevent vehicle speed control on the highway in thick fog.
