The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has taken a strict stand after allegations of using low-quality construction materials in the Geramara Bazar-Dighulia road development project in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail. The low-quality waste stored at the site has been removed on the instructions of the upazila engineer. At the same time, the contractor concerned has been given a show cause notice and instructed to complete the work again using the specified quality materials.
According to local sources, Belal, a representative of the contractor company M/s Krishna Studio, brought low-quality waste to the site in the dark of night during the construction of the sub-base of the Geramara Bazar-Dighulia road in the 2026-27 fiscal year. It was alleged that the quarries were later mixed with sand and prepared for use.
The local residents raised the issue on social media and informed the LGED authorities and the upazila administration. Based on the complaint, LGED officials including the upazila engineer inspected the site the next day. If the inspection confirmed the presence of low-quality quarries, the quarries and related materials were ordered to be removed from the site immediately.
In this regard, Mirzapur Upazila Engineer Monirul Saj Rijan said that any kind of irregularities, corruption or use of low-quality construction materials will not be tolerated in the development project. The contractor concerned has been given a show cause notice. The low-quality materials have been removed and the remaining work, including the sub-base mix, has been ordered to be completed in the presence of LGED representatives.
The official letter signed by the upazila engineer states that further construction work will be stopped until quality quarries are stocked and approved at the site as per the specifications. If the instructions are not followed, the contractor concerned will have to bear the responsibility of all subsequent administrative complications, including payment of bills.
According to the locals, the timely intervention of the administration has prevented the use of substandard construction materials. They have demanded regular supervision and accountability in development work, so that proper use of government funds and construction of sustainable infrastructure are ensured.
