Under the supervision of the Bangladesh and Indian Coast Guard, the detained fishermen of the two countries were exchanged and subsequently the Bangladeshi fishermen were handed over to their families.
On Wednesday afternoon, Coast Guard Media Oficer Lieutenant Commander Siyam-ul-Haq informed the matter through a press release on Tuesday.
The press release stated that, while illegally fishing within the Bangladesh maritime boundary adjacent to the Bangladesh-India international maritime demarcation line, the Bangladesh Navy detained 3 Indian fishing boats (FB Ma Mangal Chandi-38, FB Jhor, and FB Parmita-4) with 47 fishermen on 12 July and 2 August 2025.
On the other hand, on 12 and 17 September 2025, the Indian Coast Guard detained 32 Bangladeshi fishermen along with 2 Bangladeshi fishing boats on allegations of fishing after crossing into Indian waters through the Bangladesh-India international maritime demarcation line. Afterwards, through the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and bilateral understanding, a decision was taken to exchange the detained fishermen.
Subsequently, as per the directives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the responsibility of handing over/receiving the detained fishermen was assigned to the Bangladesh Coast Guard. In continuation of that, on Tuesday, under the supervision of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, 47 Indian fishermen detained in Bangladesh along with 3 fishing boats were handed over to the Indian Coast Guard at the Bangladesh-India International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). At the same time, the Bangladesh Coast Guard received 32 Bangladeshi fishermen along with one fishing boat, ‘FB Mayer Doa’, from the Indian Coast Guard, while the process of receiving another boat is underway.
Later, on Wednesay at 1400 hours, the Bangladeshi fishermen along with their boat were handed over to their families at the Coast Guard Base in Mongla.
