Land row stops father’s final rites: Daughter demands share before Janaza
Sarker Shahadat Hossain, Gaibandha
A family property dispute delayed the Namaj-e-Janaza (Funeral prayer ) prayer of an elderly farmer, Nazir Uddin, for five hours in Sadullapur, Gaibandha.
Nazir Uddin passed away on Sunday due to age-related complications. The funeral prayer, scheduled for 10:00 AM on Monday, was halted when his daughter, Halima Bewa, blocked the service. Halima claimed her father's land had been fraudulently transferred entirely to her brother, Idris Ali, during their father's lifetime, and demanded one bigha of land as her rightful inheritance. Idris maintained that the transfer was voluntary and that his sister had no remaining claim.
Attempts by local residents to mediate the conflict failed, leaving Nazir Uddin’s body in the house courtyard until 3:00 PM. Local authorities confirmed the incident, noting an oral complaint was made to the police, but no formal written complaint was filed.
