'Murapara Zamindar Bari' in Rupganj : A witness of great times

Murapara Zamindar Bari is a name of great attraction for travelers or historians all over the country. It is one of the archeological monuments of Bangladesh and a century-old zamindar house.

At various times, this traditional zamindar house was renovated and extended by several zamindars. It was founded by Babu Ramratan Banerjee. The palace was later renovated and expanded by some of his descendants. It is said that the history, culture, civilization and population of Rupganj are built around the zamindar's house in Murapara of Rupganj. Murapara zamindar's house stands tall as a silent witness of the great age near the banks of Shitalakshya river.

In 1889, the landlord Pratap Chandra Banerjee extended the rear part of this building and started living here with his family. His son Vijay Chandra Banerjee constructed a building in front of the palace and dug two ponds in 1899 AD. In 1909, two sons of Vijay Chandra, Jagadish Chandra Banerjee and Ashutosh

Chandra Banerjee, completed the two-story work of the palace. Jagdish Chandra moved to Calcutta with his family after the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947. Since then the house has been abandoned.

In 1948 AD, the then Government of Pakistan took over the house and arranged to run a hospital and juvenile correctional center here. After the independence of Bangladesh in 1986, Bangladesh Directorate of Archeology took over the responsibility of the house and listed it as an archaeological site.

This huge zamindar house is located on 52 bigha land in Murapara area of Rupganj police station in Narayanganj district, just 18 km from the capital Dhaka. Built 176 years ago, this huge two-storied zamindar house has a total of 95 rooms.

These include sleeping quarters, court halls, dance halls, stables, shrines, storehouses, kitchens, etc. You have to pass through the huge main gate to enter. There are 2 more gates in the inner mahal. Beyond the last gate was the Shanbandha pond for girls to bathe.

The pond is surrounded by high walls. Entry here was strictly prohibited for outsiders. There is another big pond in front of the house.

guests. The special feature of the pond in front of the building is that the water level is related to cooling, because this pond is connected to the river below the ground.

The temple near the pond has two big pinnacles. It is about 30 feet high. Its entrances are arched. The main room of the temple is quite small and dark. Adjacent to the temple is the shadowy calm-green Amrakanan.

The trees are quite old. A tree of the same size. Stems spreading, much like an umbrella.

River by boat from Majhina Ghat along the northern road through Demraghat of the capital, the zamindar's house of Rupganj. And there is nothing to worry about eating and drinking. Murapara market is near the landlord's house. You can go there and eat and drink at the hotel easily.

You can visit Murapara zamindar house any day. However, it is better to come on a holiday, as it will not disturb the study of college students, as well as you can fully explore the landlord's house. If there are children with you, they can also play sports in the big green field of the college with joy.
