What do we mean by good education
Ziauddin Liton
What do we mean by good education? What is the relationship between education and well-education or what is the difference? Who is a well-educated person? Each of these questions is deeply related to education. Our real objective is to be educated in good education or to educate our next generation in good education.
Today we as a nation are feeling the results of being educated only with certificates. By now we can understand that the consequences of certificate-based education are not good at all.
Therefore, even if you are educated, you have to gain so much momentum to remove the darkness of the country by increasing the education rate. Good education is the education which directs the human conscience to the path of morality.
It plays a role in developing that humanity in the society by making people as human beings and plays an important role in building more real people. Where education leads a person depends on how the learner applies the education in his future life. So it has been said that only well-educated people are self-educated. Along with obtaining the certificate of a well-educated person, it is necessary to acquire humane, moral, emotional qualities, to be motivated and inspired by patriotism, etc.
We get education in two ways from the beginning of life,One type of education that exists throughout our life and is helpful in all areas is education and the other is institutional education. It starts from the time of admission to school and ends at a certain time.
Actually learning is an ongoing process which never ends but is a part of life. This is the first type of education. Learning and acquiring qualities like social behavior, acquisition of family values, interaction, honesty is basically consistent with good education. And the second type of education ends after filling the file with a single certificate. This institutional education helps the individual to become self-reliant in his work, teaches morals in life and teaches honesty.
All in all makes him fit to compete in the job market. That's why in today's society there is a tendency to tell lies, competition to adopt dishonest methods, competition to hurt others, crimes like luxury or cheating are covered everywhere in the society.
The reason for this is that the moral education is there but the lack of practice is obvious. For example, children are taught in the family that lying is wrong. But that child is seeing that the practice of lying is regular in the society and many people are escaping from many troubles by this lie. These two contradictory positions are creating doubts in his mind.
He should be taught the reality that lies and dishonesty are Bad if he learns and practices telling the truth, he is well on his way to being well-educated. That is, along with being educated, the virtues of education are practiced in real life and if educated in the education of discarding bad habits, it can be confirmed that he has been well educated.
The function of education is to bring about permanent changes in behavior. If there is no positive change in behavior, it can be said that the application of education is not correct. So why is the difference between educated and well-educated increasing gradually?
From birth, the child grows up with the education he receives from his parents and family members. Day by day his family values are influencing him. In any family, the distance between parents and children is affecting his mind. He is not getting the education to develop with everyone.
Today, when people are involved in big corruption without being motivated by patriotism even with a big degree, the question may arise why dishonesty is tolerated among them with education.
Even after being educated, they could not educate themselves well. As we ask for our children to be established as human beings. How much are we finding that person today?
And why not get it, it must be judged? I am admitting my child to an educational institution to become a human being. But many fail in the end. In fact, the word well-educated means that a person after acquiring his formal and non-formal education applies it in life and encourages others to do the same. Education leads no one astray.
It guides people. If one goes astray without following that path, education cannot be blamed. Education can be said to be restricted. When a person is modest, free from arrogance even after receiving higher education, then he can be called a path to knowledge. Modesty is the religion of knowledge. So is the work of good education. It shows people the way to humanity.
Today, as in many cases, even after obtaining a certificate from the highest institutional education, it fails to show the way of humanity, that education is not of any use to the society or the country, rather it is going to the whims of the individual.
It cannot be called good education. On the contrary, if someone practices honesty in the society with his own conscience and ideals without receiving formal education, he can be said to be well-educated. By them, the welfare of the society and the country.
There are many certificate holders but how many are real people? In today's society, there is so much conflict and violence, these are the result of not being able to be a good person. Along with getting higher education, it is important for a person to learn to acquire humanity. Higher education is not only high in certificates, but high in mind and mindset. While education works to awaken the inherent power in people, it is not properly applied in the practical field.
Education is not succeeding in fulfilling its purpose. It can be said that it is the purpose and type of application. President of India and famous nuclear scientist APJ Abdul Kalam made a very good comment about education. He said, "as long as the purpose of education is only to get a job, then only servants will be born in the society and not masters".
The actual proof of that saying is reflected in our society today. Sadly, the purpose of our education today is only to get a job. Ever since the creation of the world, people have learned to survive in various processes from nature and experience.
Since then, the development of civilization has changed the course and structure of education. still happening The difference between the educated and the uneducated was in his conduct, speech, work and conduct of life. As a result, everyone felt the need for education. Gradually the number of educated people increased. The criterion is institutional certificate or recognition. However, the question arises with the passage of time as to how much these recognized people can guide. We need people. We need self-educated people. This difference between education and self-educated people will disappear that day, when everyone will become well-educated.
Being educated and becoming human are not the same thing. They are completely different. We can achieve great degrees through hard work but cannot achieve humanity. Man is the only living being that needs practice to become human.
The practice of achieving humanity is not in our society and family. Most of the people in our society have high thinking. We dream of becoming a big officer, doctor, engineer after getting educated and getting a big degree. Such is the purpose of our education. In fact, we fathers, mothers are sowing the seeds of such a dream in the minds of our children from the family. It's amazing to think that we are desperately trying to make our children into money-making machines with our own hands but are not paying attention to their humane education.
If you ask 100 students - what do you want to be when you grow up? In the answer, maybe 98 people will say they want to be a doctor, engineer or government officer. The sad thing is that may be no one will say I want to be educated and become a good person.
Just think about it, we are joining various service professions after getting big degrees, but unfortunately we are taking that profession as a way to earn money. In the language of Civics, "The family is said to be the first school for acquiring human qualities."
The role of the family in developing moral and human qualities is paramount. Because the seeds of these are rooted in the family. Family ties can inculcate morals and values. The biggest educational institution in a child's life is his family. Where every member of his family like parents, brothers-sisters, relatives play the role of a teacher. Therefore, it is very important for the moral qualities of the family members to develop the children morally.
Education is one of the basic human rights. Bangladesh's visible success in this field of education is already visible. According to government statistics, the literacy rate in the country is currently around 74 percent. Bangladesh has also progressed a lot in achieving gender equality in education. Educational infrastructure has also improved a lot.
Talking about higher education, UGC website says that currently the number of public universities in the country is 46, private universities are 106 and international universities are 3.
There are 30 medical colleges at government level and 65 private medical colleges. From these statistics, we can get an idea about the visible progress in the field of education in the country. After parents, children consider teachers as the most important people in their lives.
Therefore, in order to develop the moral, human and social development of the students, the teachers must first possess and nurture the moral, human and social qualities. In order to develop the moral, human and social development of students, subjects related to moral and human values should be included in all levels of education.
A prerequisite for a developing country is human resources with morals and values. There is no doubt that educated human resources are being created in the country; But educated people with moral and human values are not being created. As a result, incidents like parents being killed by a wealthy child are also happening frequently. Young children, teenagers and young people without consideration of moral and human sense are getting involved in various serious criminal activities like drug addiction, militancy, murder, rape. Professionals and working people are freely involved in unethical activities like bribery and corruption. Bangladesh is recognized by the world as a corrupt country as a result of their immoral activities. In today's society, people have become self-centered due to lack of education.
They are always busy with themselves. They are so engrossed in their own thoughts that they have no time to think about the birth parents' happiness and sorrow.
This self-seeking form of man is gradually separating himself from his relatives. Many times it is seen that highly educated, high-ranking working children's father and mother are also placed in old age homes, it is really sad. To develop oneself as a true human being, one must first awaken his/her inner humanity.
The conscience must be awakened. It will increase the rate of formal and institutional education. Good education should be spread. Good education is the education that makes people complete moral, humane and ethical values. Teaches people to avoid lies, injustice and dishonest ways. Discovering the truth by avoiding falsehood is the real education.
That is why it is rightly said that education and morality are opposite sides of the coin. One is incomplete without the other. Education devoid of morals and human qualities is called bad education. And this bad education makes people worse than animals.
"Darkness and decay are not the only truths. The light of truth is very near." Therefore, our future generation will shun injustice and give strong wind to the sails of truth, we must try to make them in that way.
One day they will fill this world with new forms, new thoughts and true humanity. For this we want a generation educated in real education. I want the practice of humanity at home. I want the awakening of humanity.
