An unexploded grenade from the Second World War has been recovered from agricultural land in Bishwambharpur, Sunamganj  on Friday and it  was defused by members of the army’s bomb disposal unit.

According to reliable sources from the army on Friday, a farmer discovered an object resembling a grenade on Thursday while working in the pepper field of another landowner named Sabbir in the Chalband Point area of Bishwambharpur in the district, and informed the authorities.

Subsequently, army personnel from Shantiganj in the district recovered the grenade from the field on Friday, moved it to a safe distance, and defused it around noon through the army’s bomb disposal unit.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Saleh Al Helal of the 57 East Bengal Regiment (Commander of the Sunamganj District Army Camp) told Jugantor that it was an active K-36 or M-36 model grenade. Such grenades contain over 500 to 600 splinters, which are deadly. He opined that this type of grenade was likely used during the Second World War or the subsequent Liberation War period.
