thunderds of village in Bangladesh celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr along with Saudi Arabia
Staff Correspondent
In keeping with Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries, thousands of Muslims in hundreds of villages in Bangladesh's Chandpur, Faridpur, Dinajpur, Pirojpur, and Noakhali districts are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday, ahead of the national observance.
In Chandpur, at least 40 villages, including Sadra Darbar Sharif in Hajiganj Upazila, marked the festival.
Pirzada Mufti Arif Chowdhury of Sadra Darbar Sharif said that their observance follows Quranic and Hadith principles, relying on moon sightings rather than any single country’s decision.
The first Eid congregation was held at Sadra Darbar Sharif at 9:00 am, led by Mufti Zakaria Chowdhury, followed by another at Sadra Hamidia Fazil Madrasa at 9:30 am.
Around 2,000 families across five upazilas of Dinajpur also celebrated Eid in advance by offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayers. Over 200 families gathered at a community centre in the district town at 8 am to perform the prayers. Smaller gatherings also took place in areas like Islambagh, Upashahar, and Fultala.
Since 2007, in alignment with Saudi Arabia, followers in these regions have been observing Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha prayers.
