Sylhet district police organized a security coordination meeting on the occasion of the upcoming Autumn Durga Puja celebrations. The meeting was held on Thursday at the Sylhet District Police Lines hall in Rikabibazar of the city.

At the beginning of the meeting, the martyrs of the anti-quota movement were remembered. Speakers in the meeting said that puja will be organized in 593 pavilions in Sylhet city and district. Among them, Durga Puja will be held in 153 in the metropolis and 440 in the district. Within Sylhet district, most idols are immersed in Surma river at Chandni ghat in Sylhet city and in Kushiara river at Custom ghat in Jokiganj. On the occasion of puja, it is called to repair the defective roads, keep the electricity system working all the time and keep a strict watch on the adequate security measures at the places of worshipers including the idol worship area and every pujamandap.

The members present at the meeting expressed their determination to coordinate Hindu-Muslims and maintain the recent bond. It is said to involve Muslims through the imams of mosques on Fridays. However, the use of firecrackers or firecrackers, prohibited in Hindu-Muslim religion, is discouraged.

On October 9 (Wednesday), the main formalities of Sharidiya Durga Puja, the big religious festival of Sanatan Dharma followers, will begin. Mahasaptami on October 10 (Thursday), Mahashtami on October 11 (Friday), Mahanavami on October 12 (Saturday) and October 13 (Sunday) will end with the idol worship.

Sylhet District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman said in the president's speech, if any miscreant conducts terrorist activities around Durga Puja, it will be strictly countered. Appropriate action will be taken against those who spread rumors on Facebook. People of Sanatan religion can celebrate Durga Puja with ease if they work from any place. He thanked all those who attended the meeting and hoped for a successful puja celebration with everyone's cooperation.

In the security coordination meeting, Sylhet BNP, various political leaders including Jamaat, coordinator of anti-discrimination student movement, Bangladesh Puja Celebration Central Parishad Committee, Bangladesh Hindu, Buddhist, Christian Unity Parishad, Sylhet District and Metropolitan Imam Samiti leadership, Sylhet Metropolitan and Central Committee and Upazila Puja Celebration Besides the leaders of the committee, representatives of civil surgeon, various intelligence agencies, RAB, BGB, Ansar, fire service and PDB and journalists were present.
