Students demand refund of money collected in name of reunion in Tongibari

Students have protested demanding refund of money collected in the name of reunion at Panchgaon Alhaj Wahed Ali High School in Tongibari Upazila of Munshiganj.
The students said that they collected Rs 700 from each student and a large sum from former students in the name of silver jubilee and reunion programs at the school.
In this incident, a human chain and protest were held on Saturday (June 21) afternoon at the Balur field adjacent to the school. During this time, the students said, they have taken money from everyone by promising to hold a program in our school, but even after 6 months, they are not giving us the program. They will give us the program within the next 7 days or return our money. The students also said that they are trying to do politics in the school but we students do not want any politics in the school.
Arafat Molla, a ninth grade student, said, "They took 700 taka from us on the pretext of a program. We did not want to pay this money from our house, we brought the money in bulk. But they are not giving us a program. We have gone to school many times but they did not listen to us and threw us out. Now they will give us a program within the next 7 days or they will refund our full money."
Ismail Sheikh, another ninth grade student, said, "They took 700 taka from us for the silver jubilee celebration 6 months ago but they are not giving us a program. We have asked for a program many times but they are not giving us one. Now they will give us a program or we will want our money back."
Former student Mehedi Hasan said, "They took money from us by sweet talk. We are struggling to get money from our parents. We only give 700 taka in limited amounts, but our elders have given 5,000, 10,000 and even 20,000 taka."
Another student named Junaid Fakir of class 10 said, "They have taken 700 taka from us for a program, but they are not giving the program. They want to start politics in the school, but we students do not want any politics in the school."
In this regard, the school's headmaster Md. Abul Kashem said, "We have taken the initiative to hold a reunion program on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of our school. The students have also given us enough support. We have already purchased decorative bamboo. But one group of them said that there will be a concert, and the other group said that there will be no concert. In this situation, there is a little delay due to lack of administrative support, but the program will be held."
Moniruzzaman Dewan Monir, President of the school's adhoc committee, said, "An initiative has been taken for a program in our school. The date of the program has been postponed due to some delay in determining the guests."
