The July movement was not just about changing power, but also about the hope of creating a new, just and democratic state system. People did not shed blood on the streets to replace one fascist with another. July taught us to conquer fear, to stand up against injustice.
A public meeting was held in front of the Barguna Municipal Market today, Monday (July 14) at 5 pm as part of the 'July March to Build the Nation' program across the country to commemorate the July Movement.
NCP convener Nahid Islam presided over the meeting, while chief organizer (northern region) Sarjis Alam, senior joint convener Samantha Sharmin, senior joint member secretary Akhtar Tasnim Zara, senior joint member secretary Naruddin Patwari, chief organizer (southern region) Hasnat Abdullah and others spoke.
NCP Chief Organizer (South) Hasnat Abdullah said, "We have to prepare for a long fight, our fight will end in Parliament, there will be no use trying to stop us, we will not stop."
NCP Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam said, "Dear Barguna, I express my gratitude for the love you have given me as the son-in-law of Barguna. The main roads from Barisal to Barguna must be cleared of obstacles. All the obstacles have become death traps. Hospitals have become centers of looting, there are no doctors here, the fascist government has swept the southern region with the tide of development, but the southern region is floating in the forest. We want cooperation to build a Barguna free from obstacles and corruption."
NCP convener Nahid Islam said, "The July movement has started with the expectation of forming a democratic state system. The youth who have shown new dreams have come to your door. We want Sohag's murder to be solved due to the failure of law and order, a new political direction will be started by excluding India and Pakistan, the nest of extortion and occupying Mujibism. All of them must be resisted. And if Barguna survives, Bangladesh will survive."
At that time, he also said, "Although a new country was created after the July Movement, the structure of that country has not yet been built. We want reforms for the new Bangladesh, and if there are no reforms, there will be no elections."
