Shakib Al Hasan suspended from bowling in ECB-run competitions

Sports Desk

Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in all tournaments under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), following the results of an independent test conducted at Loughborough University earlier this month. The test revealed that his bowling action was illegal.

Shakib’s action had been flagged by umpires during his appearance for Surrey in the County Championship in September. To lift the suspension, Shakib must undergo a reassessment of his bowling action and ensure his elbow extension remains under the 15-degree limit as per regulations.

The suspension officially began on December 10, the date when the ECB received the findings from Loughborough University.

Shakib had taken nine wickets in his match for Surrey at Taunton in September, marking his first appearance in county cricket since the 2010-11 season.

Recently, Shakib's career has been surrounded by controversy, largely due to his political involvement as a Member of Parliament in the Awami League government of Bangladesh, which was overturned after violent protests in July and August that saw the deaths of hundreds.

He retired from T20 internationals and opted not to travel to Bangladesh for his planned farewell Test in Mirpur in October amid protests in Dhaka. Since then, Shakib has not played international cricket.
