Sacrificial animals exceed demand in Amtali: Prices low in the market, traders worried about extortion on road

HM Rasel, Amtali (Barguna)

On the occasion of the holy Eid -ul -Azha, many animals are coming to the market of Amtali. Animals are more than demand in the upazila. The price is slightly lower than last year. But wholesale traders are not coming to the market for fear of donating the road, local traders said. They demanded the closure of the road.

According to sources in the Amtali Animal Resources Office, there is a demand for 5,700 cattle for sacrifice in the upazila. Contrary to the demand, there are 3 thousand 5 animals in the upazila. Of these, 1,900 12 cows, 3 buffaloes, 2 thousand 3 goats. There are more than 200 animals than demand. Farmers are busy in the hope of making good profits in the last days. They are very careful to take care of the cattle. Already the farmers are bringing animals to the market. The cows of four huts of Amtali upazila are exported to different regions of the country including Jessore, Khulna, Jhenaidah, Kushtia, Meherpur, Naoga and Netrokona. The wholesale traders of those areas purchase the huts of Amtali from the cattle huts. Traders complain that they have to contribute to different places of the road. Local businessmen complain that wholesale traders are not coming to the market for fear of donations. As a result, the price of beef is going down. They demanded the administration to stop the road.

Alhaj Mahbubur Rahman Howlader, a cattle trader at Gazipur port, said that cows are rising in the market this year. This year, big and middle types of cows are being sold at a lower price of Rs. He added that till now I have sold 12 cows suitable for sacrifice. Not much profit.  He added that traders are not coming to the market for fear of the road. As a result, the price of beef is low. I am loading the truck for the purpose of taking 20 cows in Dhaka. But the road is afraid for the moon. At least 1 thousand rupees will have to be contributed to different places of the road to reach Dhaka.  He demanded the closure of the contribution.

Netrokona businessman Zahirul Islam and Naogaon traders Gafur Mia said, "I have purchased cows and loaded the truck." But to go to the right place, you have to contribute to different places of the road. We traders are in great trouble with this. They also said that if the road was stopped, we could sell cows for a little profit. Now all those expenses fall on the buyers.

According to the news, the cows are compared to the demand in the market. Animals are being sold at a slightly lower price. The farm is preparing for the sale of animal.

Abdur Razzak of West Chunakhali village said, "I bought a small cow for Tk 5,000. However, the price of beef this year is lower than last year.

Abul Bashar Nayan Mridha, owner of Jimmy Agro Vet, said, "My farm has 5 cows suitable for sacrifice. They will be sold. "I will not take the cow to the market," he added. I will sell it on the farm. Many traders are in touch with me.

Farmer Jahangir said, "I sold 5 cows on the farm." The sacrifice may actually rise, but it is not at risk.

Alauddin Mridha, a leaseholder of Amtali Cow Hut, said many cows are coming to the market. Sales are good too. 300 cows have been sold in this market. He added that the sales will actually increase around Eid -ul -Azha. However, the price of beef this year is a bit lower than last year.

Amtali Police Station Officer -in -Charge Md. Ariful Islam Arif said there is adequate security in all the markets of the upazila. Buyers and sellers in the market make animals to buy and sell animals so that they can return home. He also said that fake money transactions will be monitored on much. Effective measures will be taken to stop the road contribution. By no means can the business be collected from the traders.

Amtali Upazila Animal Resources Officer Dr Sadekur Rahman said that there are more livestock than needed in the upazila. The demand for sacrifice will be fulfilled, but some animals will be developed. He added that two teams have been formed to monitor the market. They will visit the market and test the health of the animal.

Amtali Upazila Executive Officer Md. Roknuzzaman Khan said that there is a lot of surveillance on animal huts. No one will be able to collect the road. Effective measures will be taken to stop the contribution on the road.
