Environment, Forest and Climate, Water Resources Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan inaugurated the afforestation programme in Purbachal. 

The programme was inaugurated in the Hararbari Lake area of the Purbachal New City Project under RAJUK in Rupganj, Narayanganj on Thursday morning. 

  She was present as the chief guest. Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Mohammad Ejaz presided over the event.

 Secretary for Forest and Environment Dr. Farhina Ahmed was present as the special guest. 

Senior officials of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartikya RAJUK, officials of Dhaka North City Corporation and the Department of Environment and the ministry were present. 

 Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser on Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Water Resources, said in her speech as the chief guest, Purbachal has been deforested, deforestation has been taking place here since 2010. Since then, we have worked to stop this through various legal processes. It is not right to build plots or residential areas in Purbachal. The way trees are being cut or destroyed, it will not be habitable in the next 20 years. Therefore, as a contribution of young leadership, we have taken up the greening project. We have started planting trees, green grass everywhere under the zero soil policy, and planting trees on rooftops in the city. I hope this initiative will be useful in climate change.

Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Mohammad Ejaz said, there is no alternative to afforestation for Dhaka City Corporation to build a livable city. Therefore, we are working collectively. To change the climate, all departments and civil society must work together.
