Relief among people in Lalmonirhat : Daily necessities market stable in Ramadan

In Lalmonirhat, relief has returned among the general public as the prices of most daily necessities are stable, focusing on the holy month of Ramadan. Although the prices of daily necessities tend to increase during the holy month of Ramadan at other times, an exception has been seen this Ramadan.

Due to market supervision and various measures taken by various organizations including the district administration of the government, most daily necessities including sugar, pulses, dates, onions, cucumbers, potatoes, tomatoes, eggs, garlic, green chilies, dried chilies, and ginger are available at much more affordable prices this year compared to last year, the general public said.

On Wednesday, 12/3/25, it was seen in various markets of Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila that gram, known as a daily commodity during Ramadan, is being sold for 90 to 100 taka per kg, dates are being sold for 150 to 550 taka depending on the quality, and lemon haldi is being sold for 40 to 45 taka per kg. Lentils are being sold at 100 to 130 taka depending on quality, khesari dal at 110 to 120 taka, dried bundia at 180 to 200 taka per kg, fresh soybean oil at 175 taka per liter, Rupchanda soybean oil at 175 taka, sugar at 118 to 120 taka per kg, muri at 65 to 70 taka per kg, chira at 60 taka per kg. Along with this, the vegetable market is also stable.

Potatoes are being sold at 14 to 20 taka per kg depending on quality and variety. Onion is 15 to 40 taka per kg, garlic is 100 to 160 taka per kg, ginger is 100 to 120 taka, dried chili is 90 to 100 taka per pod (250 grams), brinjal is 20 to 30 taka, green chili is 35 to 40 taka, beans are 20 to 40 taka depending on the variety, bitter gourd is 70 to 80 taka, sweet potato is 90 to 100 taka, tomato is 6 to 12 taka, papaya is 15 to 20 taka, cauliflower is 10 to 12 taka, cabbage is 5 to 10 taka, carrot is 10 to 15 taka, cucumber is 15 to 18 taka, sweet pumpkin is 20 to 25 taka per kg, and gourd is being sold for 15 to 25 taka per piece.

The price of farm chicken eggs in the market is also at a tolerable level. Each egg is being sold for 38 to 40 taka. Broiler chicken is being sold for 170 to 180 taka per kg. Golden chicken is being sold at 280 taka per kg, beef is being sold at 680 to 700 taka. Goat meat is being sold at 900 taka.

In addition, in the markets, one kg of horn fish is being sold at 160 to 400 taka depending on the size, rui fish is being sold at 220 to 280 taka per kg, farmed pangas is being sold at 140 to 260 taka, bowal fish is being sold at 400 to 500 taka per kg, big katal is being sold at 250 to 450 taka, and pabda fish is being sold at 240 to 350 taka.

Coming to the vegetable market, Zahidul Islam of Barabari area said that due to the supervision and various steps taken by various government agencies, it seems that the prices of vegetables and groceries have been relatively stable this Ramadan. He said that since the prices of vegetables are lower this Ramadan compared to the last few years, I have been able to buy vegetables with ease. He also said that the prices of fish, meat and chicken are stable.

Chicken seller at the raw market, Al Mamun Mia said that due to the government's supervision activities, the price of chicken is much normal compared to the previous year. He also said, "We buy and sell here. There is no chance of making much profit. If the government controls the syndicates, then there is a chance that the price of chicken will come down further."

Fish trader Entazul Mia of Mahendranagar Bazar said that the supply of fish in the market is normal. However, although the demand for fish increases with the arrival of Ramadan, the fish market is normal this Ramadan compared to last Ramadan. However, the same situation has been seen in the markets of other upazilas of Lalmonirhat.

Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner AHM Rafiq Haider said that the prices of goods in the markets of Lalmonirhat district are within purchasing power. For this reason, the district administration has put the market under monitoring. Necessary action will be taken if there is news of a syndicate anywhere in the district.

It is mentioned that close sources have confirmed that there is a slight difference between wholesale and retail prices in the city and union level markets.
