The “Primary Debate Competition–2025” was held in Morrelganj, Bagerhat, with the participation of primary school students.
The event took place on Saturday at the premises of Morelganj Model Academy. This year’s debate topic was “Mobile phones are an obstacle to proper education for tender-aged students..
Students presented lively arguments both for and against the motion. While some highlighted mobile phones as supportive tools for modern learning, the majority argued that their misuse distracts students and hampers their focus on education.
The event was presided over by Abdul Goffar Hawlader, retired Assistant Professor of Govt. Sirajuddin Memorial College. Md. Habibullah, UNO attended as the chief guest. Special guests and keynote speakers included Mir Md. Mosharof Hossain, Founder and Director of Dhaka Icon Academy, Md. Ariful Islam, Upazila Executive Engineer, along with local political, social, and educational personalities.
The judging panel consisted of Dr. Farhana Yasmin, Assistant Professor at Jessore University of Science & Technology, and SM Mohidul Islam, Senior Teacher of Dhaka Bright School and College. The debate was moderated by noted debater and speaker Md. Mezbah Uddin.
At the end of the competition, prizes were distributed among the winners. Labannya Roy, leader of the opposition team, was awarded as the Best Speaker. Guests remarked that such competitions help students develop reasoning, self-confidence, and the ability to express opinions effectively. They also emphasized that this debate was a timely initiative to raise awareness about mobile phone usage among young learners.
The organizing institution, Morelganj Model Academy, announced that similar intellectual competitions will be arranged regularly in the future to foster creativity and critical thinking among students.
