Press conference protesting torture for converting to Islam in Gopalganj

Anamika Lucky of Patgati area of Tungipara, Gopalganj, held a press conference alleging torture and death threats for converting to Islam and remarrying after her husband's death.
At a press conference held at the Muktijoddha Complex auditorium in the district town on Tuesday afternoon, Anamika said that she married jewelry businessman Asim Kumar Saha in 2005. They have two daughters. Asim died of kidney and lung disease in 2020. After that, Anamika continued to run the business herself.
She alleged that after her husband's death, her brother-in-law, brother-in-law and eldest daughter's son-in-law Gaurav Saha started physical and mental torture to grab her property. She also claimed that jewelry worth about 3 million taka was stolen from her shop in 2023.
To save her life and out of long-standing attraction, she converted to Islam and married document writer Alamgir Hossain Biswas on May 5 of this year.
Anamika said that when the matter of her conversion became known, Bhashur Binoy, Sanjit and Gautam, instigated by the market committee president Mahbubur Rahman Khalifa and general secretary Sheikh Apu, threw her out of the house in a rag. Later, when the minor took refuge with her husband along with her younger daughter, her shop was locked and she was declared unwanted in Patgati market.
He filed a complaint with the police station but did not get any redress and has approached the court. He said that he is also suffering financial losses as he is unable to deliver the jewelry to the customers due to the closure of the shop.
Anamika's current husband, Alamgir Hossain Biswas, was present at the press conference. He demanded a fair investigation and trial of the incident.
