Potential of Agro Tourism in Bangladesh

Primarily the word tourism create a scene in our mind that it means travel from one place to another place. According to UNWTO, “Tourism comprises the activities of persons traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for vacation, business and other purposes.”
There are different types of tourism like cultural tourism, archaeological tourism, community based tourism, eco-tourism, agro tourism, halal tourism, adventure tourism, educational tourism,dark tourism, wild life tourism, business tourism, religious tourism, ethnic tourism etc.Hearing the word agro tourism someone think that what it is? It is a type of tourism that involves visiting farms or other agricultural areas to learn about farming practices, to enjoy, to experience rural life and other active involvement.In other words it is a type of tourism in which hospitality is offered on farms where activities may include helping out and learning about farming, picking fruits and vegetables, riding horses,tasting honey, and the opportunity to buy local and regional produce or hand-crafted gifts. Many people are interested to learn how their food is produced. Parents, in particular, view these kinds of vacations as highly valuable and educational for their children. In many western countries, for instance, people regularly visit ranches, vineyards and wineries, go apple picking, go fishing, etc.
for fun. Ideally, each farm would offer a unique and memorable experience suitable for the entire family.

Bangladesh has a huge potential for agro tourism. Bangladesh is an agricultural country. It is a land of natural beauty. Bangladesh has a diverse landscape. The country is home to a variety of geographical features, including mountains, forests, rivers, and beaches. This diversity provides opportunities for agro tourism operators to offer a variety of experiences to visitors, such as farm stays, nature walks, and fishing trips. The country is a major producer of agricultural products, including rice, wheat, vegetables, fruits, and fish. The soil of Bangladesh is called the Gold and the climate is temperate. Because of the soil and climate all kinds of crops are grown here. Most
of the people are dependent on agriculture here. A survey of 2022 indicate that 45.4% of people are engaged in agriculture in Bangladesh. This means that there is a large pool of potential agro tourism operators and participants in Bangladesh.Bangladeshi people are friendly and welcoming. Bangladeshis are known for their hospitality,and they are always willing to welcome visitors to their homes and farms. This makes Bangladesh a great destination for agro tourism, as visitors can experience the local culture and make new friends. It also has a rich cultural heritage and beautiful natural scenery. These factors make Bangladesh an attractive destination for agro tourists.

Here are some of the most popular agro tourism destinations in Bangladesh:
 The Sundarbans: The Sundarbans is the world's largest mangrove forest. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including tigers, dolphins, and crocodiles. Agro tourism in the Sundarbans could focus on activities such as bird watching, fishing, and wildlife safaris.
 The tea gardens of Sylhet: Sylhet is home to some of the most beautiful tea gardens in Bangladesh. Agro tourism in Sylhet could focus on activities such as tea tasting, visiting tea factories, and hiking in the tea gardens.

 The fruit orchards of Rajshahi: Rajshahi is known for its mangoes, litchis, and other fruits. Agro tourism in Rajshahi could focus on activities such as fruit picking, fruit tasting, and visiting fruit farms. The fishing villages of the coastal belt: The coastal belt of Bangladesh is home to a variety of fishing villages. Agro tourism in these villages could focus on activities such as
fishing, crabbing, and learning about traditional fishing methods. Visitors can go fishing in the rivers and lakes of Bangladesh. They can also learn about the different types of fish that are found in the country.

However, there are still some challenges that need to be addressed in order to fully develop agro tourism in Bangladesh. These challenges include: lack of infrastructure, lack of awareness, lack of skilled manpower etc. Despite these challenges, the potential for agro tourism in Bangladesh
is huge. With the right investment and support, agro tourism can become a major source of income and employment for rural communities. It can also help to preserve traditional agriculture and culture, and promote conservation of natural resources.Different parts of the country are suitable for different crops and agriculture. The soil in Kushtia is ideal for tobacco, Mymensingh for paddy, Chandpur and Barisal for fish, Sathkhira for prawn, Jessore for flowers, Dinajpur for wheat and so on. Farmers can move from one district to another for a specific time to promote agro-tourism. University and college students can take up organic farming as an extra-curricular activity and community service. They can use their creativity to find ways of incorporating organic farming in rural areas.
