Plantation Program launched in Ashulia

Mehedi Shaon, Ashulia (Savar)

With the slogan "Plant Trees, Save the Environment", a special tree plantation program was organized by the Dhaka District Social Environment and Human Rights Implementation Organization in the Bogabari Bashundhara Housing area of Ashulia on Friday afternoon with overall coordination by the organization’s Education Secretary, Md. Uzzal Hossain Bhuiyan.

The program was officially inaugurated by the OC of Ashulia Police Station, Abdul Hannan, who planted a fruit sapling to mark the beginning of the initiative. Following this, nearly 200 saplings of various species — including fruit-bearing, forest, and medicinal trees — were planted.

Advocate Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Farhad, Convener of Dhaka District People's Rights Council and a Member of Parliament candidate for Dhaka-19, attended as the chief guest. In his speech, he stated, “Currently, due to pollution, Dhaka has moved from the third to the second most polluted city in the world — a deeply alarming statistic. Tree plantation is no longer just an environmental activity; it is now a national responsibility. A tree is a life. The tree we plant today will one day symbolize a safe and sustainable future for the next generation. Regardless of political affiliation, we all have a duty to protect our environment and promote greenery.”

Organizer Md. Uzzal Hossain Bhuiyan said, “Tree Plantation 2025 is not just a symbolic initiative but a committed effort toward building a green and livable planet for future generations. In facing the challenges of climate change, there is no alternative to trees. I hope this event becomes not just a one-day ceremony, but a regular part of our daily lives.”

The program was presided over by the organization’s President, Nazrul Islam Nirab. Special guests included Mufti Solaiman Ahmad Azadi, President of Islami Andolan Ashulia Thana Committee; Arnab Kumar, President of Dhaka District North Student Rights Council; Md. Baizid Ahmed, Joint General Secretary of the Ashulia Thana branch of the organization; and Md. Al Amin Hossain, Organizing Secretary.

Leaders and activists from various local organizations and environment-friendly groups actively participated in the event.

Speakers further emphasized that planting trees is a sustainable solution to environmental protection and climate resilience. It must evolve into a social movement to truly build a greener Bangladesh.
