Non-cardholders to get TCB goods at 60 points in Chattogram city
Md. Tanzim Hossain, Chattogram City
In addition to TCB family cardholders, non-cardholders will now also be able to purchase goods from TCB (Trading Corporation of Bangladesh) in Chattogram.
According to TCB’s Chattogram Regional Office, from October 24, goods will be available at 60 designated truck sale points in the city for those without cards. These points are divided into three groups, with 20 points operating each day to distribute goods via trucks. Each point will distribute goods twice a week.
Shafiqul Islam, head of the TCB Chattogram Regional Office, stated that each truck will provide goods to 400 individuals, including 5 kg of rice, two kg of lentils, and two liters of soybean oil for Tk 470.
Cardholders will continue to collect goods from their respective ward-based dealers, while non-cardholders can line up at the designated 60 points to receive goods. The initiative will be inaugurated on October 24 in front of the TCB Regional Office at Bandar Tila by the Divisional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram.
It is worth noting that family cardholders have long been the sole beneficiaries of TCB goods. However, amid allegations of favoritism in card distribution and the exclusion of many underprivileged people, the government has now opened this opportunity for the general public.
Chattogram currently has 535,050 family cardholders.
