No scope to pay tax out of Govt : Bogura SP Mirza Sayem Mahmud
Bogura Correspondent
Bogura Superintendent of Police (SP) Mirza Sayem Mahmud, PPM, has categorically stated that there is absolutely no scope for paying taxes or money to anyone outside the government, reaffirming the police department's rigid stance against extortion and terrorism.
He assured the public that if anyone falls victim to extortion and files a complaint, necessary legal action will be taken immediately while keeping the complainant's identity strictly confidential.
The SP made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting held on Friday afternoon at the Colony Northway Motel auditorium in Bogura city.
The event was organized to form the Colony Business Owners' Association and to raise awareness against terrorism, extortion, and drugs.
Addressing the gathering, the police chief highlighted the challenges stemming from a severe manpower shortage. He noted that for a district with a population of nearly 4 million (40 lakh) people, the police force has only 2,200 members, with a significant number of posts currently lying vacant. Despite these limitations, he emphasized that the police are working with the utmost sincerity to protect public life and property.
SP Mahmud further revealed that law enforcement has already started taking legal action through mobile courts against individuals involved in criminal activities, particularly youths purchasing cheap sharp weapons.
"A zero-tolerance policy is being followed against extortionists, and night police patrols will be further intensified to ensure public safety," the SP added.
In view of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, the Superintendent of Police urged the business community to keep the prices of essential commodities at an affordable and tolerable level. The present business leaders expressed their full support for his call.
Chaired by Alhaj Dr. Md. Shahanur Rahman, owner of Chittagong Nur Motel, the meeting was also addressed by special guests including RAB-12 Bogura Company Commander Firoz Ahmed, Bogura Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Atiqur Rahman Badal, and Bogura City BNP President Advocate Hamidul Haque Chowdhury Hiru.
Other notable attendees included the Editor of Daily Duranto Sangbad Sabur Shah Lotus, Bogura District Juba Dal General General Secretary Abu Hasan, Headmaster of Bogura Deaf and Dumb School Ataur Rahman Shamim, and Managing Director of Tajma Ceramics Sharifuzzaman Bachchu, alongside local traders and prominent citizens.
