New trust fund formed for DU students’ scholarships

A new trust fund titled ‘Dr. A H M Karim and Hosne Ara Begum Trust Fund’ has been established to provide scholarships to the students admitted to the 1st year undergraduate program of the Department of Development Studies at Dhaka University.
To establish this trust fund, Syed Abdullah Al Muti, son-in-law of Dr. A H M Karim and Hosne Ara Begum, handed over a cheque of 10 lakh taka to Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan on Tuesday.
Present at the occasion were Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Sayma Haque Bidisha, Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Dr. Taiyebur Rahman, Chairperson of the Department of Development Studies Prof Dr. Nayeem Sultana, Prof Dr. M. Saiful Islam, Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, and donor family members Md. Shafiqul Rahman and Syeda Sima Akter.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan thanked the donor for establishing the trust fund. He expressed hope that this initiative would benefit students significantly. He also mentioned that such initiatives would play an effective role in strengthening the relationship between the university and society.
From the income of this trust fund, three underprivileged students of the first-year undergraduate program of the Department of Development Studies will be awarded scholarships every year. Each recipient will receive 24,000 taka annually at the rate of 2,000 taka per month.
