The NBR Reform Unity Council has sought Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’s intervention to help resolve the ongoing deadlock within the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The appeal was made during a press conference held on Thursday afternoon.
At the briefing, the Council re-issued their ultimatum demanding the removal of NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahmat Khan by June 27.
Failing this, they warned of launching a countrywide indefinite shutdown at all customs and tax offices from June 28.
As part of the escalation, the Council has also announced a “March to NBR” programme on June 28, mobilising participants from across the country.
Speaking at the press conference, Council President Hasan Muhammad Tarek Rikabdar said, “At this point, there is no alternative to reform except the immediate removal of the NBR chairman.”
The NBR has been facing severe disruptions in services in recent weeks due to ongoing protests and work abstention by officials demanding structural reforms and leadership change.
