Lightning and Talgam: The natural prevention system of rural Bengal
Dr. Mohammed Mahtab Hossain Mazed
Bangladesh is a natural disaster -prone country. Every year there is frequent thunderstorms during the monsoon season, which has become one of the causes of fatalities. Farmers, livestock, children, children, and even pedestrians, especially in the open field, are subjected to thunderstorms. The government recently declared thunderstorms as a natural disaster, which refers to its horror. In this context, a simple and effective method of ancient Bengal has re -discussed - planting Talgas.
> What is thunderstorm and why?
Lightning is a natural electric emission, which occurs between clouds and soil or in two clouds. Usually, a much stronger electric charge comes from the sky to the ground during thunderstorms. When this lightning hit the ground, it can be fatal. People standing in the open field, especially those who have metal in the body or accessories, are at risk.
Bangladesh is the highest thunderstorm from April to June. Experts say the incidence of thunderstorms has increased due to climate change.
> The relationship of resistance to thunderstorms with talcum
The height of the locks is very high, and its stem is long and straight, it easily takes thunderstorm injury. That is, the talcum itself attracts the thunderstorm and helps it to reach the ground. As a result, people and livestock in the vicinity of the palm are often safe. It acts as a natural 'lightning conductor'.
There is a common saying in the folk society of Bengali - "Talgach draws thunderstorms". This idea is not mere superstition; Behind this is the scientific basis. Planting the locks on the open land can take the thunderstorm on its own and reach the ground, which is not possible for other plants or plants. Also, the water is low in the talcum, so it is less risk of caught fire during thunderstorms.
> Talgach tradition in rural Bengal
In rural Bengal, talcas are used not only to prevent thunderstorms, but also for many purposes. The fruit of the palm is used as a food, shells and juice. Its shoots are used to create a house pole, mat or boat structure. Again the leaf is made of fan, flute, dala-bow. That is, Talgach is not just a tree, it is a symbol of a self -reliant life.
Once upon a time, the fields were seen in the field of every village in Bangladesh. The farmers used to put the talcas on the isle of their own land. It would have been saved from thunderstorms, and then selling the fruit fruit would have earned a little income. But now the number of talcums has decreased under the influence of urbanization, which is affecting thunderstorms.
> National initiative
The government and various social organizations are currently creating awareness about the planting of Talgas. Talbiz planting programs have been taken with the participation of students in many districts. Environmental organizations say that if the talcas can be planted in large rates in every village, in the open field, on the road and around the educational institutions, the fatal fatalities will be greatly reduced within a few years.
Faridpur district administration experimentally planted about 3 lakh talcums on various roads and fields on the 2017st. Within a few years, the trees are now growing and are now helping to prevent thunderstorms. Such successful initiatives have begun to accept acceptance in other regions of the country.
> The benefits and challenges of planting talcum
Advantages:- effective in preventing thunderstorms * environmentally friendly and prolonged * Food and Economic Benefits * Helping land erosion * Animal and Human shades resting
> Challenges:
* Trees take time to grow large (8-10 years * Lack of care after sowing of Talbiz * In some areas the tendency to cut down the locks * Lack of proper policies and surveillance.
1. Awareness Raise Activity: In schools, colleges and media, it is important to run the campaign with the importance of talcum.
2. Provide state encouragement: Incentives or prizes can be introduced in planting talgas.
3. Local Government Participation: Planning to plant Talbiz at the union and upazila level.
4. Research and Observation: Research and data collection on where, where the talcas are the most effective thunderstorm.
5. Legal Assistance: Legislative and enforcement to control the cutting of the lock.
Finally, I would like to say that Talgach is not just the nature of rural Bengal, it is now a symbol of saving people's lives. The use of talcas as a simple, natural and effective resistance of lethal disasters like thunderstorms is a breakthrough. It's time to renew this tradition. With the concerted efforts of the government, private institutions and the common people, if the locks can be planted on every open land of the country, then a safe and environmentally friendly Bangladesh will be ensured for future generations.
