Kosovo Ambassador meets DU VC

The Ambassador of Kosovo to Bangladesh, Mr. Lulzim Pllana, paid a courtesy call on Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, at his office on Sunday.  Mr. Enis Shemaili, Deputy Head of Mission at the Kosovo Embassy in Dhaka, was also present during the meeting.During the discussion, they explored mutual areas of interest, particularly the possibility of launching joint academic and research programs between Dhaka University and the University of Pristina in Kosovo. They also discussed faculty, student, and researcher exchange programs. Both sides agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon to formalize the collaboration.Ambassador Pllana emphasized the importance of enhancing educational cooperation between Kosovo and Dhaka University as a means of advancing societies. He also stressed the need to improve people-to-people connections between the two nations.

Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan briefed the ambassador on the university's history, as well as its academic and research activities, and thanked him for his interest in visiting and engaging with Dhaka University.Later in the day, Ambassador Pllana delivered a special lecture titled “The Republic of Kosovo Towards Euro-Atlantic Integration: Relations with Bangladesh, Asia, and the Prospects for Cooperation with Bangladesh at the Muzaffar Ahmad Chowdhury Auditorium. The event was hosted by the Applied Democracy Lab of Dhaka University.The program was chaired by Associate Prof Mohammad Ainul Islam, Director of the Applied Democracy Lab. Also in attendance were Professor Dr. Taiyobur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Dr. Muhammad Sajjad Hossain Siddiqui, Chair of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies.In his address, Ambassador Pllana noted that several bilateral agreements have already been signed between Bangladesh and Kosovo, including a MoU on bilateral consultations, a general MoU, and an agreement on visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic and official passports. He stated that these agreements are helping to strengthen ties between the two countries.He added that further agreements are under discussion, covering areas such as trade, education, cultural exchange, economic cooperation, and avoidance of double taxation.
