
Journalist of Naya Diganta beaten up in Rupganj

Shafiqul Islam Mir (44), a correspondent of the daily Naya Diganta newspaper in Rupganj's Kanchan Shilpanchal area, Narayanganj, was beaten up and seriously injured by terrorists. He was attacked twice by terrorists in the Bhulta area on Friday at 10:30 pm on his way home after publishing news about various crimes including drugs, land grabbing, terrorism, extortion.
According to local sources, Siam, a land grabbing, terrorism, extortion, drug dealer and local terrorist from the Saoghat area of Golakandail Union of the upazila, along with his associates, beat up Zahirul Islam, a garment worker hired by Shafiqul Islam Mir's cousin Monir Hossain, and snatched a mobile phone set and 4,830 taka from him. Upon receiving the news, journalist Shafiqul Islam Mir asked Siam about the theft of his mobile phone and money.
Angered by this, Siam and his associates attacked Shafiqul Islam Mir. At that time, the attackers looted his belongings including cash, a DSLR camera, a mobile phone set, a gold ring, and more than 3 lakh taka. Later, the incident was reported to the Bhulta police outpost in-charge. When Shafiqul Islam Mir was returning home, the terrorists armed with ramda, rohar rod, da, knife, chenda, chapati, SS pipe and weapons launched a second attack near the police outpost. At that time, when people around Shafiqul Islam shouted, the terrorists threatened to kill him and fled. Later, Shafiqul Islam was rescued and admitted to the Rupganj Upazila Health Complex.
Rupganj Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. IV Ferdous said that journalist Shafiqul Islam Mir has injuries on his head, right leg, and left hand, including in various parts of his body. However, the condition of the injuries can be understood through X-ray and CT scan. However, journalist Shafiqul Islam is now out of danger.
In this regard, Shafiqul Islam Mir has filed a complaint with Rupganj Police Station, naming Al Amin Bhuiyan (27), son of Kalai Bhuiyan (27), Siam Bhuiyan (19), son of Rafiq Bhuiyan (19), Babu Bhuiyan (25), son of Abul Hasnat (25), Raju Bhuiyan (24), son of Dil Mohammad (24), Osman Bhuiyan (22), son of Aminul Bhuiyan (22), and Nazmul (32), son of Shahjahan Miah (32) as the plaintiffs and 4/5 unidentified people as accused.
Rupganj Police Station OC Liaqat Ali said that he has received a written complaint regarding the attack on journalist Shafiqul Islam Mir. The police have inspected the scene. Necessary action will be taken after a proper investigation.
