Journalist Faruk Mahmud injured in attack in Chunarughat

Senior journalist Faruk Mahmud, Joint General Secretary of Chunarughat Reporters’ Unit and General Secretary of the All-Party Citizen Unity Council Ranigaon Union unit, sustained severe injuries following an assault in Chunarughat on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at around 3:00 PM on September 8 along Ballah Road near the Alim Madrasa area. According to local sources, Faruk Mahmud noticed a group of individuals assaulting a man in the area and was leaving the location while speaking on his mobile phone. At that point, the attackers turned on him under suspicion of political affiliation and physically assaulted him.
A local resident, Monir, alongside his family members, rescued the injured journalist from near their residential gate and brought him inside to safety. With the assistance of locals, Faruk Mahmud was subsequently admitted to Chunarughat Upazila Health Complex for medical treatment.
Local sources identified individuals associated with local youth groups, including Anik and Prantar, as being involved in the attack. The incident has drawn sharp criticism and concern among local journalists and political activists in the region.
