JnU student Habib Riyad commits suicide

JnU Correspondent

A student from the Computer Science and Engineering Department of Jagannath University (JnU) has committed suicide. The deceased, Habib Riyad, was a student of the 2018-19 academic session on Saturday night.

Habib Riyad took poison meant for killing rats at his home in Palashbari, Gaibandha. His death has cast a shadow of grief over his classmates and acquaintances.

A friend of Riyad said, "He had been suffering from mental distress for a long time. He distanced himself from everyone and rarely interacted with others. He often spoke about personal struggles, but we couldn't fully understand what he was going through."

Another friend mentioned, "Riyad was always quiet and preferred to stay alone. Even in class, he remained silent and didn’t mingle with others. When asked why he had stopped studying, he never gave a clear answer. He had been distant for a long time."

The exact reason behind his suicide is yet to be confirmed. However, many believe that his prolonged detachment from university life might have contributed to his mental distress. Students of the university have expressed their sorrow and emphasized the importance of mental health awareness.
