Jamaat opposes any anti-national interest move : Dr. Shafiqur Rahman
Moulvibazar Correspondent
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will not support anything that goes against the country’s interests, including the establishment of corridors or the transfer of port operations.
This was stated by Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman during an exchange of views with tea workers in Kulaura, Moulvibazar, on Sunday afternoon.
He emphasized that decisions regarding critical issues like corridors and ports should be made by an elected government, and if an interim government seeks to make such decisions, it must consult all political parties. Jamaat also does not support extending the tenure of the interim government.
The event, chaired by Kulaura Upazila Jamaat Ameer and Assistant Professor Abdul Muntajim, was attended by Central Assistant Secretary General Adv Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Sylhet Metropolitan Ameer Md. Fakhrul Islam, District Jamaat Ameer Engineer M. Sayed Ali, District Secretary Principal Yamir Ali, former Upazila Jamaat Ameer Khandakar Abdus Sobhan, Lecturer Hamid Khan, current Upazila Secretary Belal Ahmad Chowdhury, and District Chhatra Shibir President Md. Nizam Uddin, among others.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further said, Jamaat seeks a transparent and impartial election within the timeline set by the Chief Adviser, from December 2025 to June 2026. Regarding the improvement of tea workers’ living standards and securing their civic rights, he said, “Every citizen of the country will have equal rights.
The basic rights of tea workers remain unfulfilled, and the government must take responsibility. If we receive the mandate and responsibility through the people’s vote, we will ensure a dignified life for them and support the development of their children’s talents.”
