The administration has demolished several illegally constructed structures set up in the name of parasailing on the sand dunes of the Dariyanagar Point beach in Cox’s Bazar.

Several construction materials from the demolished structures were also seized during the operation.

On Monday afternoon, a mobile court led by Nafis Intesar Nafi, Executive Magistrate in charge of the district administration’s tourism cell, conducted the operation in the Dariyanagar area under Khuniapalong Union of Ramu upazila along the Cox’s Bazar Marine Drive.

Nafis Intesar Nafi said that on May 21, a tourist couple was injured in an accident while parasailing with ‘Fly Air Sea Sports Parasailing’ at Dariyanagar Point beach in Cox’s Bazar. The following day, a mobile court from the administration conducted a drive and ordered five parasailing sports companies operating at Dariyanagar and Himchhari beaches to halt their activities until further notice. At that time, several unauthorized structures including a gazebo, toilets, and restrooms built by ‘Fly Air Sea Sports Parasailing’ on the beach dunes in the ECA area without the administration’s approval were demolished.

However, on Monday afternoon, after receiving news that the accused organization’s personnel had resumed construction on the sand dunes in defiance of the earlier directives, the administration carried out another mobile court operation to demolish the structures, the Executive Magistrate of the district administration’s tourism cell said.

Nafis Intesar Nafi further mentioned that occasional accidents occur during parasailing sports. Following the recent incident where a tourist couple fell and was injured during parasailing, widespread criticism arose across various platforms. In response, the administration has issued directives to temporarily halt the operations of all parasailing sports companies.

He added that in the future, the administration would enforce strict monitoring when renewing licenses for the accused organizations and would ensure that no operations are conducted without trained and skilled personnel
