Galachipa Law and Order meeting focuses crime prevention, Hilsa conservation

A monthly law and order meeting was held in Galachipa of Patuakhali on Monday, focusing on coordinated efforts to curb drug abuse, juvenile gangs, theft, extortion and illegal land grabbing, as well as ensuring effective implementation of the upcoming ‘Mother’ Hilsa conservation campaign.
The meeting was held at the UNO Conference Room at noon, with UNO and Executive Magistrate Abuzar Md Ejajul Haque in the chair.
Political leaders, law enforcement officials, public representatives, journalists, fishermen and representatives of local ice factories attended the meeting.
Speakers said administrative measures alone would not be sufficient to tackle drug abuse, juvenile gangs, extortion and illegal land grabbing. They called for coordinated efforts involving political parties, public representatives, educational institutions, law enforcement agencies and conscious citizens to strengthen social resistance against crime.
The meeting also discussed measures to ensure the success of the 2026 ‘Mother’ Hilsa conservation campaign. Speakers stressed the need to raise awareness among fishermen, stop Hilsa fishing during the ban period and take legal action against those violating the restrictions.
Among those present were Upazila BNP Convener Haji Md Golam Mostafa, Galachipa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Imtiaz Ahmed, District Jubo Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Md Mohibullah Anim, Gana Odhikar Parishad Member Secretary Md Zakir Munshi, State Minister Nurul Haque Nur’s representative Mohammad Abu Naim, Municipal BNP Convener Md Rafiqul Islam Khan, Member Secretary Mohammad Saheb Ali and Press Club President Md Khalid Hossain Milton. Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Victor Bain was also present.
UNO Abuzar Md Ejajul Haque said the administration and law enforcement agencies would take necessary legal measures to maintain law and order in Galachipa.
