Alert Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) personnel deployed for Durga Puja security apprehend four youths red-handed for harassing female visitors at puja mandaps in Dhamrai, Dhaka, and Khagrachhari on Mahanavami.
In Dhamrai, Dhaka, a youth identified as Mohan Roy was caught at approximately 8:30 pm on Tuesday at the Rathkhola Sarbajanin Durga Temple. According to sources, Roy had been loitering suspiciously around the mandap area before attempting to physically molest a female visitor. On-duty Ansar-VDP member Alif Sikdar caught the suspect red-handed and immediately informed Upazila Ansar-VDP Officer Asif Iqbal.
Asif Iqbal, who was inspecting a nearby mandap, arrived at the scene promptly. When an agitated crowd attempted to assault the suspect, the Ansar officer intervened to de-escalate the situation and handed Mohan Roy over to Dhamrai Thana Police for legal proceedings.
In a separate incident at around 10:30 pm at the Sree Sree Laxmi Narayan Temple in Khagrachhari, three youths—identified as Sakibul Hasan, Rakibul Islam, and Farooq Hossain—were apprehended for harassing and modesty-assaulting women inside the temple premises. On-duty Hill Ansar Havildar Md. Mokleshur Rahman and Hill Ansar Hazrat Ali detained the trio on the spot and alerted Upazila Trainer Saiful Islam. The suspects were initially handed over to the temple management committee, who subsequently turned them over to the police.
Following the swift actions of Ansar-VDP personnel, law and order remained under control at both locations.
