
Former Rangpur Bar-President sent to jail in murder case of Anti-discrimination Movement

The court has sent former President of the Rangpur Bar Association, Abdul Haque Pramanik, to jail in the murder case of the anti-discrimination movement.
This order was given in the court of Judge Mohammad Mashiur Rahman Khan of the Rangpur Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court on Sunday afternoon.
He was charged with attacking the student crowd during the July Uprising, attempting to murder, and two murder cases. In this regard, he received anticipatory bail from the High Court. Yesterday, on the last day of the bail period, Abdul Haque Pramanik appeared in the Rangpur Metropolitan Judge's Court and applied for bail, but the court did not grant bail and sent him to jail.
Abdul Haque Pramanik was a two-time former president and three-time former general secretary of the Rangpur Bar Association. There are three murder and one attempted murder cases against him in the Anti-Discrimination Movement murder case. Earlier, he took temporary bail from the High Court. He surrendered to the lower court on Sunday after the bail expired. Yesterday, on Sunday afternoon, July 13, learned Judge Mohammad Mashiur Rahman Khan of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court did not grant bail after hearing the case and ordered to send him to the court.
Earlier, Advocate Mohammad Abdul Haque Pramanik, General Secretary of Awami Ajibni Parishad Rangpur and former General Secretary of the Bar Association, surrendered on the order of the High Court in 3 murder and 1 attempted murder cases.
According to the court, Abdul Haque Pramanik is an accused in 3 murder and 1 attempted murder cases following the Anti-Discrimination Movement. He is an accused in the murder case of banana trader Merajul Islam, the murder case of goldsmith Merajul Islam Milon and the murder case of vegetable trader Sajjad Hossain. He is also an accused in the attempted murder case of Momdel.
In the hearing of the case, Metropolitan Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Abdul Hadi Belal and Special PP Adv Rezeka Sultana Fancy appeared for the government and Abdul Haque Pramanik was represented by Advocate Shahed Kamal Ibne Khatib, President of the Bar Association, and Advocate Rais Uddin Badshah. After the hearing of the case, the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court rejected bail in GR No. 388/24 (Kotwali) and GR No. 401/24 (Kotwali) and another attempt to murder case and ordered him to be sent to the Central Jail.
